Basil D’Oliveira arrived in 1964 and played for the Club whilst qualifying for Worcestershire

The Championship was won in 1962 when the Club had the bowling services of Fred Rumsey (Somerset , Worcs and England) and Roy Tattersall (Lancs and England). The two “Peters” – Heard and Harris were a formidable opening batting partnership for several years. Harris regularly scored over 700 runs a season. In 1964, Basil D’Oliveira arrived from South Africa and played for the club whilst qualifying for Worcestershire. He made quite an impression scoring over 700 runs and taking 43 wickets. It was clear that he had a great career ahead of him. The team were winning the League comfortably for most of the season but a run of drawn matches saw them slip down the table.

The title was shared with Walsall in 1966 with the addition of brothers Roger and Chris Newman batting in the middle order. Local boy Jim Yardley also impressed with the bat and was later signed by Worcestershire.

Dave Smith “cleaned up” Stourbridge In May 1968 by taking all 10 wickets for 18 runs in 9.2 overs including the last 5 wickets in 6 balls.

In the late 60’s Kevin Griffiths, Tony Burkes, David York, Richard Perry and Mike Hopkins all arrived on the scene with notable performances. Tony confused many with his off spinners and was always pleased to tell others how he did it afterwards. He was to be a part of the club for many years and later captained the 3rd and 4th XI’s helping the younger cricketers to develop.

One of the KCC Juniors, Mick Pitt played for England U16's in 1968.
