John Aldridge was back playing regularly by the early 1970’s. After completing his County career, John spent some years in Tasmania playing Sheffield Shield cricket and coaching. He teamed up with David Smith, Paul Roberts and the veteran Trevor Larkham to bowl the team to a joint title shared with Moseley in 1973. Peter Harris, Stephen Johnson, Roy Barker and Ernie King make the bulk of the runs with youngster Godfrey Lamb beginning to make an impression with handy scores and excellent wicket-keeping.

In 1975 the Birmingham League 1st Division was increased to 12 teams and Kidderminster were the first side to carry off the Championship and also finished runners up in 1976. Peter Harris, Peter Jones, Steve Johnson, Godfrey Lamb, Roy Barker continue to make the runs with John Aldridge, Derek Oliver and Peter Jones taking the wickets.

After the 1976 season the team was decimated when 6 members of the first team either left to join Duport or retired. John Aldridge took up the captaincy and with Godfrey Lamb and the energetic Ernie King began rebuilding the side with new recruits Peter Radburn, Tim Oakley, Derek Telling, Bryan Cowley, John Rose, Geoff Hayes and Dr. Hugh Bradby. The “doc” was an elegant opening batsman, who, when his duties at Queen Elizabeth Hospital allowed, scored heavily and made over 500 runs in his first season.
